SETTLE AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIETY PRESENTS
It’s all aboard the S.S. American, sailing from New York to London in October with Settle Amateur Operatic Society, for their production of ‘Anything Goes’. This wonderful, fast-moving Cole Porter musical, set in the 1930s, is packed to the trunk-top with a host of much loved numbers from the title song through ‘You’re the Top’, ‘Friendship’, ‘I Get a Kick Out of You’, ‘It’s De-lovely’, to the show-stopping, toe tapping ‘Blow Gabriel Blow’.
The colourful though dysfunctional cast is headed by evangelist turned nightclub singer Reno Sweeney, who has eyes for Billy Crocker, though his eyes are firmly fixed on lovely young debutante Hope Harcourt, who in turn is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, a wealthy Englishman. Sound complex? Well it is! Things are further complicated by Billy’s boss Elisha Whitney and his romantic intentions towards Hope’s Mother Evangeline. Add to there characters the presence of public enemy number 13, Moonface Martin and his moll Erma, and we have the ingredients for first class amorous intent above and below decks.
The storyline is peppered with a catalogue of mistaken identities and misleading disguises creating a joyous voyage of laughs, confusion, and of course love.
If you are interested in being involved in any way with the society get in touch using the contacts page... new members always welcome!!!
